HURF Nepal awarded Satendra Jabegu, editor of the Ilam Post Daily and Ilam Aawaj Shaptahik (weekly) on the occasion of the 67th International Human Rights Day (10 Dec) in Ilam.  Jabegu was awarded with NRS 10,000 and with a Felicitation Letter in the ceremony organized at HURF Hall on 10 Dec, 2015.
It is mentioned on the felicitation letter that Mr. Jabeju has been contributing to raise the issues of voiceless, despite the armed conflict situation. He therefore awarded that his dedication, professionalism, strong leadership on profession and impartial patient on the principles of journalism. Furthermore, he has been prioritizing the issues on human rights through his jornalism for 17 years of active practice.
District Judege Mr. Nawaraj Dahal, chief guest of the ceremony, expressed that the HURF's positive step to respect to the journalist. He added, 'It's a challenge on the protection of human rights if the country is not strong enough itself, and there is a need of human rights activists and journalist to aware and sensitize to community and the state.'
The awarded Jabegu, expressed his gratitude to the HURF and said, 'Now, I felt that HURF has evaluated my 17 years contribution which supported to gear up my ethic and responsibility and it also supported to encourage the new generation."
Mr. Khem Bhujel, treasure of the Federation of Nepalese Journalist FNJ Ilam branch said, 'FNJ and journalists from Eastern Development Region  felt being felicitated with this award and encouraged us to work in the filed of human rights and rights of marginalized.'
District level political parties, securities heads, officials and representatives of line agencies, media and journalists, activists, civil societies congratulated Mr. Jabeju and thanked to HURF's continuation of the award.
The Human rights journalist of the year award was established in 2014 by HURF Nepal and it is awarded to the journalist in the eastern development region every year. 2 journalists has been awarded with this award. Mr. Yagya Sharma from Morang was awarded in 2014 and Jabegu is the second awarded journalist.
