On the occasion of 68th International Human Rights Day HURF has organized 3rd Human Rights Journalist of the Year Award Program at HURF hall, Ilam on 10 Dec, 2016. HURF has been providing this award to the journalist of the Eastern Region of Nepal who are actively involved in the protection and promotion of human rights through journalism.
In this year, Mr. Chandra Bhandari, a former secretary of the Federation of Nepalese Journalist has been awarded with a human rights year award. He was honored with a Felicitation letter and NRS 10000. In the Felicitation letter it is mentioned that Mr. Bhandari despite of various obstacles has been fighting for the protection and promotion of human rights. And for his dedication and huge effort he is awarded with the Human Rights of the year.
High Court Biratnagar Ilam Bench Judge, Mr. Ramesh Bahadur Thapa a chief guest of the program expressed that the judiciary is always on the behalf of protection and promotion of human rights and will be standing for the justice of the civil society.
Mr. Ramesh Bhandari, awardee person expressed his gratitude to HURF for providing such an honour which has further added a challenge to work on behalf of human rights. He further expressed his commitment to work for coming 25 years for the protection and promotion of human rights with complete zeal and zest. He said that the media person and the journalist should provide huge effort to contribute on behalf of human rights being free from any political alliance. HURF Nepal has already awarded Mr. Yagya Sharma from Morang and Mr. Satendra Jabebu from Ilam in the last 2 years.
