HURF Nepal awarded journalist Parwat Portel with Human Rights Journalist of the Year, a province level award established by HURF Nepal, on the occasion of 70th International Human Rights Day in Ilam. Mr. Ram Rana, law maker of provincial parliament, and the chief guest of the award ceremony awarded him with a felicitation letter and ten thousand rupees. 'Awarded Portel is an active journalist writing on the issues of Dalit, women and children for more than 15 years and he has been exploring issues of voiceless from Nepal, North East India, Bhutan, Burma & Bangladesh' mentioned in the felicitation letter. Mr. Portel is working as co editor of the Kantipur National Daily for last 6 years. DDC coordinator Ganesh Baral, deputy mayor of Suryodaya municipality Ms Durga Bhattarai, leaders of political parties, chairperson of the NGO federation, FNJ central committee member Satendra Jabegu expressed their best wishes to Mr. Portel and suggested HURF to continue the award in the days ahead. The ceremony was chaired by HURF president Mohan Singh Thebe. Mr. Portel is the fifth journalist awarded with the Human rights journalist of the year. HURF Nepal has already awarded journalists namely Yagya Sharma, Satendra Jabegu and Chandra Bhandari & Kokila Dhakal in last 4 years.
