A workshop on identifying issues of Dalit community with Local Government Representatives of Taplejung district has been completed. On the occasion of the conclusion of a series of programs organized in the district headquarters, Phungling, the Local Government Representatives said that untouchability exists in the society and the local government will work to end it in a planned manner.

In a special discussion with the chief, deputy chief and other Local Government Representatives of the local level of the district, they said that they will work for the rights of Dalit community by formulating local laws. The participating Local Government Representatives have prepared an action plan to prioritize the issues of Dalit community in their policies and programs in the coming days.

The program was organized by Human Rights Forum Nepal with the support of Misereor Germany and coordinated by the District Coordination Committee Taplejung. These programs were conducted under the project "Solidarity for Ensuring Dignity: Collective Efforts Against Discrimination through Policy Awareness at the Local Level". The program was chaired by Devendra Bishwakarma, Executive Director of Human Rights Forum Nepal, with DCC Taplejung Chief Chhiring Lama serving as the chief guest. Devendra Bishwakarma, Executive Director of the HURF, highlighted the need and relevance of the program. Bhakta Bahadur Thami facilitated the program. Man Kumar Baraily presented the existing national and international system regarding Dalit rights and the current situation of the Dalit community, while Suresh Portel hosted the program.
